Dr. Henry Cheng

Q.: I have heart burn, a mysterious cough and hoarness of voice. My doctor said I have acid reflux and put me on Nexeum which seems to be controlling the symptoms. Is there any herbal medicine that can help the healing?

A.: GastroEase Plus (Biomed) contains DGL (deglycyrrhinated licorice) and mastic gum that are known to fight excessive stomach acid. It also contains marshmallow root, chamomile and fennel seed that soothe the gastric mucosa. Another preparation called RR Formula (Biomed) contains ingredients including N-acetyl-glucosamine and L-glutamine that repair the mucosa. If you had been tested positive for H. Pylori, then also take a course of Gastroplex (Biomed) that contains undecylenic acid, wormwood, caprylic acid, garlic, grapefruit seed, rosemary leaf, thyme leaf, Oregon grape root, Echinacea and Huang-liang all of which control bacteria and parasites.
